Deepening Core Instruction
Learn why successful standards-based instruction requires extended processing and application of knowledge to achieve long-term retention.
In Deepening Core Instruction, teachers will learn to construct and implement researchbased instructional strategies that support students as they expand, apply, and deepen their understanding of content. These highly effective strategies will be modeled to demonstrate the cognitive progression of thinking required to deepen knowledge. Teachers will have the opportunity to strengthen the instructional strategies they currently utilize by practicing intentional planning to monitor for evidence of the desired result. They will also uncover other strategies and criteria required to guide deeper thinking to reach rigorous standards.
This is a ‘hands-on’ session in which teachers will create a toolbox filled with instructional strategies, tools, and resources. Teachers will learn how to manage student response rates with tiered questioning, as well as help students practice skills, examine similarities and differences, examine their reasoning, and revise their knowledge.
