Learning Sciences Marzano Center promotes excellence in public education by providing and developing next-generation teacher and leadership evaluation tools and training. Our Leadership Team
Dr. Robert J. Marzano, Executive Director
Robert J. Marzano, Ph.D, is Executive Director of Learning Sciences Marzano Center. Dr. Marzano is a nationally recognized researcher in education, a speaker, trainer, and author of more than 30 books and 150 articles on a variety of critical educational topics. Dr. Marzano’s practical translations of the most current research and theory into classroom strategies are internationally known and widely practiced by both teachers and administrators. He received a bachelor’s degree from Iona College in New York, a master’s degree from Seattle University, and a doctorate from the University of Washington.
Michael D. Toth, CEO
Michael D. Toth is founder and Chief Executive Officer and Chief Learning Officer of Learning Sciences International, iObservation, and Learning Sciences Marzano Center for Teacher and Leader Evaluation. Formerly the president of the National Center for the Profession of Teaching, a university faculty member, and director of research and development grants, Mr. Toth transformed his university research and development team into a company that is focused on leadership and teacher professional growth and instructional effectiveness correlated to student achievement gains.
Mr. Toth is actively involved in research and development, gives public presentations, and advises education leaders on issues of leadership and teacher effectiveness, school improvement, and professional development systems. He is the author of a variety of LSI-published books, including Who Moved My Standards? Joyful Teaching in an Age of Change: A SOAR-ing Tale, the creator of the SOAR School-Year Theme Kit, and co-author, with Robert J. Marzano, of Teacher Evaluation That Makes a Difference: A New Model for Teacher Growth and Student Achievement.
Dr. Beverly G. Carbaugh, Vice President and Senior Fellow
Beverly Carbaugh, EdD, specializes in school and district leadership. She is co-author of white papers, books, and evaluation models with Dr. Robert J. Marzano. Before joining Learning Sciences International, she was deputy superintendent of the School District of Osceola County, Florida. Dr. Carbaugh began her career in 1979 as a teacher and served as charter principal of Colleen Bevis Elementary School, a National Blue Ribbon School, Mintz Elementary, and Tomlin Middle School.
Dr. Carbaugh’s expertise includes executive leadership in school administration, curriculum and instruction, and human resources. She also has extensive experience as a national speaker at educational forums and conferences. She earned a Doctor of Education in Education Leadership at University of South Florida and her Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education at University of Arizona.

A dedicated team of educator consultants and staff developers provides tailored training solutions and direct implementation of the Marzano evaluation models and the Marzano Center Essentials for Achieving Rigor model across the U.S. and internationally. Drawn from a diverse background of K-12 principals, superintendents, curriculum specialists, instructional coaches, and more, the team includes former members of National Blue Ribbon Schools, charters, IB and Magnet Schools of Excellence, as well as successful turnaround schools in urban and rural districts.
